Let Fly Fishing Travel take you on one of the most memorable fishing trips that can be experienced anywhere in the nation.
Spend 3 nights and 4 days at our above timberline camp located at over 10,500 ft on the shore of the high Sierra's Alger Lakes, famous for being home to some of the largest Golden Trout in existence.
Our outfitter Frontier Pack Train offers Golden Trout Pack Trips in the solitude of the beautiful Ansel Adams Wilderness near Yosemite National Park. They will show you the best fishing spots, set up camp in the most picturesque places and treat you to mountain gourmet food around the campfire.
The Dohnel brothers, owners of Frontier Pack Train, have 35 years of accumulated packing experience in the Sierra. Their staff of women and men wranglers, cooks and assistants are some of the most experienced and personable that you will meet at any packing operation.
The Dohnel brothers personally attend to the details of safety and hospitality that make for an amazing outdoor adventure! All trips are full service, designed to fit your personal needs and interests. A full camp is set up each evening with latrines, tents and a back country kitchen for good old fashioned cooking. You will be matched with a gentle, well-mannered horse that is suited to your riding ability, beginner or expert. The five hour pack trip into the high country is a rugged adventure that is a true E ticket experience.

Itinerary:
Day One: Meet at the Pack Station in June Lake at 7:00 a.m., when breakfast will be served. You will partner up with a horse to match your ability and then ride into the beautiful Ansel Adams Wilderness.
The lunch and fishing stop will be beside Crest Creek, where there will be plenty of rainbow trout in the system from Gem Lake. The pack train will then continue to Algers Lakes, to settle into camp
Day Two: After breakfast, you can fish the Algers lakes system for Brookies, Rainbows and Golden Trout in the 3 lakes and/or the river running by camp. You can hike to one of the passes above Algers Lakes.
Day Three: Much the same as day two, you can fish the Algers lakes system for Brookies, Rainbows and Golden Trout in the 3 lakes and/or the river running by camp. You can hike to many areas around camp. You will spend the balance of the day fishing near camp and rounding off the evening around a gas campfire (no fires above 10,000')
Day Four: Fish in the morning. After having lunch at the camp, return to the Pack Station, arriving at 4:00 p.m.

What to Expect:

FOR MOST TRIPS Check in time is 7:00 a.m. at Frontier Pack Train in June Lake.

Breakfast is served the first day while gear is packed on the mules. The last meal furnished is lunch on the last day.

Dunnage limit is 40 lbs. per person. This includes sleeping bags, fishing gear, liquor.

They provide a saddle bag for trail essentials. We do not suggest bringing saddle bags or backpacks unless pocket size.

No alcoholic beverages served or included in trip fee but you can BYOB but the weight counts against your 40lbs limit.

Transportation provided for return to June Lake for trips terminating at other road heads.

Trips will terminate at 4:00 p.m. the last day.

Frontier crew does not treat the water. Bring your own filter pump or purification tablets.

They furnish stock, packer, cook, food and camping equipment. Private tents for couples or singles will be reserved by request. All trips are outfitted with chairs, solar showers and privy.

Bring gear in nylon duffels - sleeping bag and pads separate. It is recommended that sleeping bags and clothing be placed in a waterproof bags such as a lawn and leaf bag to protect them from rain while in transit. Mark each bag with your name.

Frontier Pack train is just off 395 on June Lake loop 158. There is no physical address but from the north or south entrance they are in the middle, next to Silver Lake. Frontier Pack Train has a big sign and you will see the horses.

Gratuities
The the packers and wrangler staff work hard to provide you with a safe and enjoyable experience, for that reason it is customary to offer a gratuity of 10% of the trip rate. On the last day of the trip, your host will collect gratuities on behalf of the packer who will distribute them to the staff.
